Unverified Toll-Free numbers in the US can not send text messages but they can be used to make (with some limitations) and receive calls.

What is needed to verify a toll-free number:

  1. You need an LLC + EIN
    • Only users who own an LLC are able to get toll-free number verified
  2. You need a live website (using your own dedicated domain) with an opt-in or booking form
    • The website needs to have its own dedicated domain or subdomain
  3. You need a privacy policy in the footer of your website
  4. You need a terms & conditions page linked to the footer of your website
  5. You need proper opt-in verbiage on your contact form or booking form
    • e.g., The form has a consent box with the following text: "Yes, I would like to receive important updates, appointment reminders, and promotional messages from [Your Company Name] via text message and/or calls to the phone number provided."
  6. You need to have a consent box to opt-in for further information
    • Must go together with the opt-in verbiage
  7. Correct use case information
    • Some SMS API platforms like Twilio, and the Phone Numbers section in GoHighlevel provide examples for this
    • Example: "This number will be used to send appointment information - confirmation & reminder messages to our customers once they have booked an appointment with us on our website and opted-in to receive promotional and notification SMS from us."
  8. Accurate contact information linked to the LLC on the verification form
    • The information you plan to use in the verification must be tied to one another or belong to the same business. The address you submit in the verification must be the LLC's address, not your home address unless they're the same.
